GREAT PRODUCERS TASTING JULY 2
Dear Friends,

Ok, maybe I’m crazy but...it’s time for a party - more precisely, a Great Producers Tasting (GPT) at the warehouse – a notorious and raucous free-for-all that I need 2-3 years to forget that I said I would never do again.  It’s been 2-3 years since our last GPT so I’ve had plenty of time to forget...

So, next Thursday July 2nd (as a kickoff to the holiday weekend) we will hold our bi-annual (tri-annual?) Great Producers Tasting, 5:30pm-8:30pm, it should be the place to be in Seattle that night.  I apologize for the last minute scheduling but better last-minute than not at all (I will be in town that week to speak at the Small and Special conference - for information and tickets please see: http://www.smallandspecial.com/ )

For those of you that have attended a GPT in the past, it is an infamous event, among the more interesting you will find in the US.  It is not a typical tasting where multiple bottles of the same 20-30 wines are lined up on table tops - here, there may only be one bottle of 100 different wines so you will not taste everything (not even close) - bottles will run out before you get to try them, you will be frustrated...but wait, who cares if you don’t try everything? There will be dozens of other wines opened after the bottle that ran out and the goal is to have fun - not to try every wine and take detailed tasting notes (this will not be a staid note-taking environment and that's not really the point of the evening, although there will be plenty to get you excited). We want you to relax and actually enjoy the wine you are tasting/drinking for a few minutes instead of racing to taste and spit 100 times in an hour. Our goal is a brash kick-off to the 4th of July weekend but it will also be informal and at your own pace.

With every GPT, it’s impossible for me to set an accurate price on admission as there is no way for me to recoup the cost of the wines (or it would be hundreds more/person) - unlike a typical retailer tasting, none of the wines have been donated by wineries or are free samples, none of them are for sale or will be for sale (this is not a marketing event with an ulterior motive to drum up future business).  This is a customer “thank you” tasting where I pull one-off bottles from my own cellar, collected from my travels over the years.  Many have been hand-carried back from Europe and they’ve been collected to open with friends and family - this is the time.

The format is casual and without pressure or other - you simply show up and start tasting (no seats, this is a walk-around affair).  In addition to a fun evening, you will undoubtedly learn a great deal and have a chance to taste wine you would never normally open (DRC anyone? How about some Leroy? 1982 Bordeaux? Old Bourdy - maybe a 1911? Been wanting to try the 2006 Galardi before everyone else – you will.  Maybe some old vintages of Galardi? How about 1994 Harlan?  Maybe Screaming Eagle? 3.0lts of aged Cote Rotie? Not sure what will be opened but all of these sound good to me...plus a whole lot more)

The Great Producers Tasting
$175/person
Thursday, July 2nd
5:30-8:30pm (or until we run out of wine to open)

You don’t need to show up exactly at 5:30, come for as little or as long as you would like - different wines will be opened throughout the three hour time slot so there will be plenty to try.

How would you feel if you received your wine in a fiber shipper instead of styrofoam?
